New Zealand’s First Park Hyatt Hotel Officially Opens in Auckland
New Zealand’s first Park Hyatt hotel, Park Hyatt Auckland, opened on 15th September 2020, offering travellers and Aucklanders a new luxurious place to meet, drink and dine in a prime waterfront location. The stunning 195-room waterfront hotel features four restaurants and bars, a day spa and fitness centre as well as versatile event spaces. Bringing a new level of enrichment to New Zealand, Park Hyatt Auckland also marks the return of Hyatt hotels to the country.
Designed by Ali Reda from ar+d in Singapore in collaboration with local Bossley Architects, the hotel’s architecture is conceptualised as a Māori wharenui (house)—to be a place of gathering that brings families and communities together. The hotel’s double-layered exterior echoes a Māori cloak while the elegant interiors by Conran and Partners pay homage to New Zealand’s indigenous culture and feature Māori artwork specially created by local Kiwi artisans for Park Hyatt Auckland. On arrival, guests are welcomed by a stunning waka, carved by Rotorua artist, Lyonel Grant, and site-specific light installation by Peata Larkin inspired by traditional weaving to create an atmospheric artwork that represents the pathway to the sea as well as protection and strength. Featuring a tranquil moat and soaring atrium not seen before in Aotearoa, the elegant lobby is both airy and intimate. All 195 guestrooms feature custom-designed beautifully woven Tukutuku panels as featured artworks as well as rugs made from New Zealand wool.
The hotel’s unrivalled accommodation options range from 47 sqm guestrooms (almost double the size of comparable rooms in the city) to the 245 sqm Presidential Suite, setting a new benchmark for luxury accommodations in New Zealand. The 23 suites offer commanding harbour views while the rooftop Presidential Suite features an internal garden and an additional 125 sqm terrace to entertain and soak up the spectacular panoramic vistas.
Park Hyatt Auckland offers a collection of bars and restaurants that offer unparalleled drinking and dining experiences for memorable occasions. The culinary team is led by Executive Chef, Brent Martin, a New Zealander who has returned home after an illustrious career spanning six countries and more than 20 years managing restaurants in some of the world’s top hotels.
Drawing from New Zealand’s rich and diverse landscapes and culinary innovation, the restaurants and bars at Park Hyatt Auckland include:
Onemata, which means “rich fertile soil,” reflecting Park Hyatt Auckland’s commitment to thoughtfully sourcing ingredients and showcasing local suppliers and culinary artisans. The restaurant opens onto Lighter Quay and serves the finest local produce with a menu-driven by seasonal and sustainably sourced ingredients.
