5 Things About Lady Gaga’s Makeup Line
Since her debut album in 2008, singer-songwriter Lady Gaga has always challenged the status quo with her bold and provocative performances. She is also a fashion trailblazer (and possibly the only human being on the planet) capable of pulling off red carpet looks like a meat dress or an egg-shaped “vessel” with aplomb. Last but not least, who could ever forget her stellar portrayal of Ally in A Star Is Born? Is there anything Lady Gaga can’t do?
In September, the multi-hyphenate icon expanded her resume once again by entering the beauty space with the launch of her makeup line, Haus Laboratories. If like me, you’re rolling your eyes at yet another celebrity brand, Gaga remains unfazed. “The last thing the world needs is another beauty brand, but that’s too bad,” she says. Here’s everything you need to know about Lady Gaga’s new makeup line, right down to the details of her epic launch party.
Lady Gaga was very hands-on in the creation of Haus Laboratories.
Lady Gaga worked very closely with her makeup artist Sarah Tanno and was present every step of the way to ensure her debut collection was exactly how she envisioned it to be. From creating formulas for each product to selecting shades, she could have taken the easy way out by simply using her name and calling it a day.
The line is a homage to her childhood and mother.
Gaga experimented with makeup at a young age, after seeing her mother put on makeup to power through the day, which eventually gave her the confidence to discover her own beauty. Similarly, she hopes that her products will help women find their individuality, and transform the way they look.
During her launch party, Gaga DJ-ed her own set.
Her 500-strong “Haus Party” was held at Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar on 16th September, complete with a star-studded list of celebrities such as Nikita Dragun and Patrick Starr. Gaga kicked off the night by DJ’ing a set before taking the opportunity to unveil the six-product collection. Guests were also surprised by a mini lab tucked behind the room where they could try them out.
You can use these products to replicate Gaga’s signature eye look.
The debut collection includes her signature eyeliner with a formula that’s extra pigmented, extra matte and guaranteed to last, with the most precise applicator made possible. If you’re unable to draw an intricate winged look, there are reusable stick-on eyeliner stickers, with various styles for all occasions.
Gaga also collaborated with Facelace to create Armour Masque, an elaborately detailed paste-on eye mask inspired by a look she often wore on tour. If eye makeup isn’t your thing, Haus Laboratories has 6 shades of demi-matte lip liners that have the perfect consistency. The best part? It’s waterproof.
