Brunch Spotting: 5 Great Places to Chill Out in Singapore
The best way to spend any Sunday is to sleep in followed by a nice and relaxing brunch with your family or friends. Over the years, the allure of brunch has become a social thing, and it is also an acceptable excuse to drink alcohol before noon. If you are looking for the perfect eggs benedict, fluffy pancakes with delicious maple syrup, or simply good ol’ grub, here are 5 great spots to go on the weekend.
Wild Honey Scotts Square
Wild Honey has always been a popular brunch spot in Singapore, and their first outlet at Mandarin Gallery is known to have long queues before 10 am. What makes Wild Honey special is their incredible western all-day breakfast menu. The name of each dish has cultural significance—for example, Norwegian, consisting of poached eggs wrapped with Norwegian smoked salmon or Boulevard St Michel which is essentially French toast with double baked cheese and sides of egg, tomatoes, bacon and chutney. They also have various cereals, fruits and yoghurts as well as vegetarian options if you’re more health-conscious. For the sweet-toothed, the Canadian buttermilk pancakes are a must-try!
P.S. Café Palais Renaissance
Set amidst lush greenery in the heart of town, the glassed enclosure and outside patio seating provide a charming yet cosy ambience that puts you in the right mood. Start with a Basil & Mint Lemon Mojito (special brunch cocktail) and be sure to order their Tiger Beer-Battered Fish & Chips. If you have prefer Asian, there also a dedicated menu that doesn’t disappoint.
Greenwood Fish Market & Bistro
If you have a sudden hankering for really fresh seafood, head straight down to this hidden gem in Greenwood Avenue. This quaint bistro brings a touch of Mediterranean style with a mix of hot and cold seafood platters featuring exquisite oysters, crustaceans and much more. There are pastas and burgers if you want some hearty too. That aside, you might want to try their Sashimi platter that rivals most upmarket Japanese restaurants or any of their catch of the day. Seafood lovers would be in heaven here.
Wheeler’s Yard
Inside a massive industrial warehouse along the Whampoa park connector, Wheeler’s Yard serves up a fusion of western and Asian dishes such as Truffle Fries, Spicy Bangers & Mash, Mentaiko Potato Salad and Miso Pork Belly Rice Bowl. Its open concept is spacious and the décor features superhero figurines and vintage bicycles (some of which are for sale). Wheeler’s Yard is a definitely an instagrammable place and has a classic hipster vibe.
The Providore Mandarin Gallery
Overlooking the main stretch of Orchard Road, this is an awesome spot for people watching on a lazy Sunday. If you don’t want your usual fare, a good recommendation would be the Spanish Baked Eggs with grilled chorizo sausages or Ricotta Pancakes with caramelised banana. Round off the meal with an organic cider or even a glass of champagne—everything is always better with champagne.
