At this year’s New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020, we saw glitz and glamour at Ralph Lauren, Prabal Gurung getting political by draping his models in sashes that read “who gets to be American?”, Zendaya and Tommy Hilfger bringing the house down at the Apollo Theatre, and Marc Jacobs sending out a colourful march—bringing much-needed fun to the runway. While industry heavyweights continue to put their best foot forward, here are 5 trends that have caught our attention.

Neon

While many tend to shun away from blinding neon shades, designers like Hellessy and Tom Ford have created stunning pieces that never seem excessive. If you’re a monochrome lover, perhaps it’s time to prioritise these glowing colours again.

Textures

Puffy sleeves, feathers and fringe are all the rage, and the aim here is to make a statement. Oscar de la Renta and Prabal Gurung show us the artful way of being bold without compromising on class and style.

Suits

Suits are back in vogue, but without the stuffiness that usually comes with wearing one. Adeam and Helmut Lang are among the few who are leading the charge by putting their own twist on classic silhouettes.

Collars

The reappearance of pussy bows and Peter Pan collars (thanks to the Brock Collection and Tory Burch) prove how easy this little style affectation can become the focal point of your outfit.

Prints

Loud and distinct prints can be part of your everyday life in the form of co-ords or a throw-over coat—but the trick is to look effortless, so take your cue from Zimmermann or Brandon Maxwell on how to vamp up your satorial game.
